Strong business moat

We believe AKRA remains structurally well positioned even in a potential diesel supply disruption scenario, driven by geopolitical risks such as the Strait of Hormuz. The key issue in the current environment is procurement security, and we believe AKRA is among the few distributors in Indonesia that can reliably secure supply. Its combination of scale, infrastructure and balance sheet strength makes it a preferred counterparty for global commodity trading houses precisely when markets become dislocated. With industrial diesel demand remaining structurally inelastic, we think AKRA is positioned to capture both volume and margin upside during periods of tight supply.

Proven reliable energy supplier

In current risky environments, supply is allocated to counterparties that combine strong credit quality with reliable logistics. We believe AKRA fits this profile. The company controls roughly USD2bn of integrated logistics assets including storage tanks, trucking fleets and marine vessels, while maintaining a near-net-cash balance sheet of around USD100mn. This positions AKRA as one of the most credible diesel distributors in the region when trading houses are deciding where to allocate the constrained supply.

Inelastic industrial demand

On the demand side, diesel consumption by the mining and industrial sectors remains structurally resilient. During supply disruptions, industrial buyers cannot simply pause operations, which makes fuel demand highly inelastic. Indeed, shortages tend to intensify the urgency to secure supply. As the dominant distributor of non-subsidised fuel to industrial users in Indonesia, AKRA stands to benefit as miners and industrial operators increasingly rely on private distribution channels when state supply becomes constrained.

Business model proven through cycles

AKRA’s competitive position has been tested repeatedly across commodity cycles, regulatory changes and logistical disruptions. The company’s integrated infrastructure, long-term customer relationships and disciplined balance sheet management have allowed it to emerge stronger after each cycle. This suggests that AKRA’s advantage is structural rather than merely cyclical, providing resilience during both commodity downturns and supply shocks.

Valuation remains undemanding

Despite its structural strengths, AKRA currently trades at around 9x 2026F P/E with an 8% dividend yield. At this valuation, the market appears to be pricing the company largely as a stable distributor rather than a strategic logistics platform that benefits during supply dislocations. Given the combination of tightening diesel supply, resilient industrial demand and AKRA’s preferred counterparty status, the current valuation offers an attractive risk-reward profile. We maintain our Buy rating and TP of IDR1,700, valuing the stock using 13x 2026F P/E. Key downside risks include: 1) lower-than-expected volume for its trading & distribution business; 2) lower-than-expected ASP for its chemical business, and; 3) delayed customer acquisition strategy for JIIPE.
